ANSWERING YOUR CHILD'S QUESTIONS ABOUT GENDER AND SEXUALITY

Sometimes adults overcomplicate discussions due to their own feelings of discomfort.  My advice is to answer the question asked, and then ask if there are any more questions rather than giving more detail than needed.  In example, a kid asking about how babies grow in utero may really just want to know how a being can survive inside another body and be interested in the gestation process.

As kids grow and have questions about their gender and sexuality, and many parents do not know how to answer them.  Answer what they are asking, and if you don't know be honest; you do not have to know all of the answers.  It is good to model how to turn to trusted sources.

Here is a resource that I like to discuss various ways of being and who you may be attracted to: the Genderbread Person.
